About PES - National Level
1. Founded in 1923 at the University of Illinois, Phi Eta Sigma is the nation's oldest and largest honor society for first-year college and university students in all disciplines.

2. The three Greek words appearing on our crest form the motto of the organization: 'Knowledge is Power.'
​
3. Since its founding, more than 1,100,000 scholars have been inducted into Phi Eta Sigma.
​
4. Phi Eta Sigma chapters have been chartered on 378 campuses across the United States.
​
5. More than $275,000 in scholarships are awarded annually by the national organization, and many additional thousands are awarded by local chapters.
​
6. Phi Eta Sigma is governed by a Constitution and Laws generated by student delegates attending national conventions. At the biennial conventions, student delegates also elect the national officers and Executive Committee members.

About PES at UVA
1. The UVA Chapter of PES was restarted in 1970 by Claire Ngo.
​
2. We are open to all undergraduate disciplines, including students in the schools of Engineering, Nursing, and Architecture.
​
3. Our chapter has received national recognition for promoting the principles of the Honor Society's Pyramid of Strength.
​
4. We award scholarships each year to members of Phi Eta Sigma who have contributed to the club in meaningful ways.
​
5. We host a variety of events throughout the year, including social events, fundraisers, and community service opportunities!
​
6. Dues are a one-time cost of $60 and get students access to all events hosted by PES, as well as our extensive alumni network.
​
7. After being inducted, members have the opportunity to apply to join the Executive Board to get more involved!
​
8. We raise money for various charities throughout the year by selling t-shirts, graduation cords, and other fundraisers around Grounds.
​
9. Once you join, you are a member for life!
